Volunteers

Our Volunteer Benefits Policy is as follows:

1. 8 hours of work prior to or at the convention gets you into the staff party on Sunday evening, plus a commemorative photo of all the celebrity guests at the convention.

2. 12 hours of work pre-con or at the con (example: working a promo table at another convention getting the word out about us, getting flyers to another convention, working with an Experience or Department head on programming, doing work at a convention sponsored screening at a movie theater) gets you free convention admission for the following year. That is, you'd be paying the advertized rate for this year, but 2009 would be free. (Our rates get progressively higher as we get closer to the convention, and our at-door rate is higher still.)

3. If you do a panel (actually participate as a knowledgeable participant on a program panel) that 1 hour of panel time counts as 3 hours of volunteer time. So it's a 1 to 3 ratio, and you can mix-n-match panel to volunteer hours to come up with the 12 hours. 4 one hour panels = 12 volunteer hours and your admission for 2009 is free. 2 one hour panels and 6 hours of manning a door for the security team = 12 volunteer hours and your 2009 admission is free.

4. Other volunteer benefits include: a. Staff pricing for the dining experiences (volunteers / staff pay only cost for the food functions). b. Line privileges for autographs and photos. c. Area seating for special performances.

5. Prior to the convention, and at the convention, all volunteers are required to report to the Volunteer Coordinator to receive their assignments and volunteer card. Once an assignment is completed they will need to have their volunteer card signed off on by an Experience or Department head, or senior staffer, to verify the completed hours. This is to ensure all volunteers fulfill the requirements for the free admission, staff party and other benefits. For volunteer hours performed prior to the show, all volunteers need to receive prior approval of hours and tasks by an Experience head (For 2008: Paul Aldred for Sci-fi and Pop Culture, Debra Aldred for Science & Technology, Mary Dumas for Anime Kaiju and Bill Todd for Gaming). If an Experience head asks for your assistance the hours worked are automatically credited toward your total volunteer hours (no prior approval is needed).

6. If more then 12 hours are worked they can not be carried over to the following year. All volunteer hours are accumulated for the next show year only. But we will thank you sincerely for all your extra help.

So, if you are 13-years-old or have a few more years on you... WE NEED YOUR HELP, PLEASE VOLUNTEER!!!!!

This is our Compensated Membership Policy:

1. Only the Event Planning Board can authorize compensated memberships.

2. If you are an Experience organizer you get comp'ed for the convention you're working. Department heads working under an Experience organizer will be comp'd for their 2009 memberships.

3. If you're a high level panel presenter (example: you're outside the community but have a talent, expertise, or specialty that we want to have presented at the convention, i.e. Japanese sword artist, voice actor, model building expert, etc.) you'd get a comp'ed one-day membership for the day you're presenting an approved panel that is on the final schedule.

4. In the future, a Compensated Membership will exist for those who worked a minimum of 12 hours at the prior convention.

Hope you can help! If you want to sign up to volunteer at the show you can now do so online! Just fill out the form below. We will contact you a couple of weeks before the show to review the available positions.
